Assistive Technology is the broad name for tools that help people access computers and communication. An Augmentative and Alternative Communication system, or AAC, can turn selected or typed language into speech. Eye-gaze or eye-tracking is one way to control an AAC system or computer without a traditional mouse.
Other access methods can include head tracking, switch controls, voice control, sip-and-puff devices, mouth-operated input, screen readers, and speech-generating software.
The platform is designed for assistive tools that send ordinary keyboard, pointer, touch, or speech commands through the browser.
Videos require a transcript of speech and important sounds. Photos require a meaningful written description before approval.
This website does not replace an AAC system and does not certify compatibility with a particular hardware brand. Contact VON if your setup encounters a barrier.
Accessibility is an ongoing control, not a one-time certification.
Veterans Of Now targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA practices. New content, partner uploads, documents, and media must be reviewed for accessibility before publication. Automated checks help, but human testing with disabled users remains part of the compliance roadmap.
